My brother and his family were in town last week. They wanted to see the Statue of Liberty but did not want to spend 2 – 3 hours waiting in line for the ferry. Also the ferry to the Statue of Liberty Island costs $12 for adults and $5 for kids–For a party of 7, the total cost is $58. They could take a 75-minute cruise from Circle Line for $24 for adults and $16 for kids that will cost a whopping $128!
However, every New Yorker knows how to enjoy views of the downtown skyline, the New York Harbor, the Governor’s Island, Ellis Island, Jersey City skyline and the Statue of Liberty for FREE, yes, you heard me, FREE! Are you ready for the secret? Staten Island Ferry! The Staten Island Ferry serves as a public transportation for residents of Staten Island (Pronunciation: \sta-tən\) and tourists. The ferry service is between Whitehall Street in Lower Manhattan and St. George on Staten Island. For 30 minutes, my brother and his family enjoyed a majestic view of the New York Harbor. To this day, he still could not believe that the trip is free.
Below are pictures that I took on that trip.
